NEW: Council Vacancy

The Town of Collingwood is currently seeking applications to fill the vacancy of one (1) Council seat for the remainder of its 2022-2026 term of Council. If you are interested in applying, please complete the required Council Vacancy Appointment package available at the following locations: 

  1. Online, by completing the Council Vacancy Appointment Application Webform
  2. In person at the Town Hall, 97 Hurontario Street, Collingwood, ON, during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; or
  3. Via paper, by downloading and completing the Council Vacancy Application Paper Form (PDF), and emailing it to clerk@collingwood.ca or dropping it off at Town Hall; or
  4. Contact Clerk Services by email clerk@collingwood.ca or phone 705-445-1030.

The deadline to submit an application is Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.

All applicants must be a qualified elector as defined in the Municipal Elections Act and must be:

  • A Canadian citizen;
  • At least 18 years old, and;
  • Resident of the Town of Collingwood, or the owner or tenant of land in the Town of Collingwood, or the spouse of such a person; and
  • Not prohibited from voting (per the Municipal Elections Act) or otherwise by law.

A special meeting of Council will be called on Thursday, March 20, 2025, to select a candidate to fill the current vacancy. Applicants will be provided with an opportunity to address Council at this meeting. The eligibility of candidates will be certified and confirmed by the Clerk on March 18, 2025. Personal Statement of Qualifications and Interest in the Position submitted by the applicants will also be posted on March 18. The vacant Councillor position will be filled by appointment.

Background Information

This vacancy was created due to the resignation of a Councillor for the Town of Collingwood. At the January 27, 2025, Council meeting, Council declared one (1) Councillor position vacant as required by the Municipal Act, 2001. Further to Staff Report C2025-03, considered by Council at its regular meetings held on February 10 and February 24, 2025, Council opted to proceed with the option to fill the vacancy by inviting applications from interested qualified electors and further approved the procedure contained within the staff report on how the candidates will be interviewed and successful candidate appointed.

This is a paid position earning approximately $30,000 annually.
