Getting Married

Applying for a Marriage Licence

A marriage licence is required for all marriages in Ontario. For current information on requirements for marriage, please visit the following link: https://www.ontario.ca/page/getting-married

Your marriage must be performed by an officiant who is authorized by the Province of Ontario. A list of authorized officiants can be found here: https://data.ontario.ca/dataset/registered-marriage-officiants

Application forms can be picked up at Town Hall or can be downloaded by visiting the following link: https://forms.mgcs.gov.on.ca/en/dataset/007-11018.

Completed applications should be signed by both applicants and emailed to clerk@collingwood.ca, with two pieces of acceptable government-issued identification. Identification requirements are included below. If either party has been divorced in Canada, a scanned copy of the original or court-certified true copy of the Certificate of Divorce (Form 36B) or Decree Absolute is also required. A divorce judgement (Form 25A) will not be accepted.

After your signed application and supporting documents have been submitted, a member of the Clerk's Department will respond to your request and schedule an appointment. Appointments are available at the Town Hall, located at 97 Hurontario St.

Appointments are required for all marriage licences. Walk-ins will not be accepted. The appointment is to obtain your marriage licence only. The Town of Collingwood is not currently offering civil marriage ceremonies.

The fee for a marriage licence is $156.00 for residents and $200.00 for non-residents, payable at time of pick-up by cash, debit, credit card or cheque.
